Edu infra projects to offer ‘better facilities for pupils’

A new government school and revamped facilities for the new academic year have been promised by the education authorities. This comes amidst the Kingdom’s Education Ministry overseeing the ongoing revamp work at a number of schools, where facilities are being expanded. Work is on to construct new schools while revamp works are being carried out at many educational facilities across the Kingdom, the Ministry of Education sources informed Tribune.

“School buildings are being revamped while laboratory facilities and other school facilities are being added to some schools. “Classes are being equipped with the latest e-learning facilities as the Ministry of Education continues efforts to modernise government schools in the country,” the sources added. A ministry official confirmed that a new primary school for girls will be opened in Hamad Town during the current academic year.

Other facilities that will be opened include an academic building at Muharraq Primary School for Girls as well as an academic building in Riffa Middle school. The ministry is also preparing classrooms to be suitable for special needs children. The Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning commissioned two consulting firms to examine the school buildings in co-ordination with the Ministry of Education.

The Construction Projects Director at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Mariam Abdulla Ameen, last week stated that the work on constructing an additional academic building for the West Riffa Intermediate Girls School has begun after being tendered in favour of Zaedon Building Construction at total cost of BD787,639. The Construction Projects Director said that the MoW has completed the design work, and is now supervising the project, adding that the Ministry of Education is keeping up with the constant need of building many schools in line with the expansion plans.

“This is in order to provide education to as many students as possible, and to have schools closer to their residences.” Ms Ameen added that with the building’s design, the MoW has considered the modern needs for the Ministry of Education to provide a convenient and engaging environment.
