Cop assault case adjourned to Sep 16
The First High Criminal Court has adjourned the trial of a male driver, who was driving under the influence of alcohol and assaulted policemen last year, to September 16, 2019. The man denied the assault accusations before the judges, stating that he drank until he passed out at the time of the incident and claimed that he’s “unable to remember anything”.
The details of the case showed that the crime occurred on August 20 last year, when the quadragenarian driver was drunk and caused a traffic accident while driving on the wrong side of Shaikh Hamad Highway. The first victim told the prosecutors that while he was on-duty, he was alerted about law-violating individuals on Shaikh Hamad Highway, and when he reached the location, he saw the suspect among three other persons in the presence of a policeman.
The first victim mentioned in his testimony that he saw the suspect attacking the policeman while resisting arrest. He added that the suspect punched him in the face when he interfered in an attempt to assist the other policeman in arresting the suspect. However, the suspect denied the charges and told the judges that he was out with his friends on the day of the incident, adding that they were headed to a party in Manama and they were consuming alcoholic beverages.
The suspect claimed that he wasn’t aware of what happened next as he passed out in the car after excessive drinking. He alleged that he doesn’t recall attacking or verbally insulting any policemen. Medical reports showed that one of the victims suffered injuries in the knee and collarbone as a result of the attack, according to Prosecutors. It also confirmed that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, the security footage showed the suspect while attacking the policemen.
On August 20, 2018, the suspect was accused by the Public Prosecution of assaulting a public security officer while and because of performing his duties, and causing the injuries mentioned in the medical report and shown in the provided images.
