Shura delegation to attend global forum on SDGs

A delegation from the Shura Council will participate in the third World Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Development, set to be held in Bali, Indonesia, from tomorrow under the theme ‘Combating Inequality through Social and Financial Inclusion’. The delegation comprises the member of the Legislative and Legal Committee, Dr Ahmed Salim Al Arrayed and member of the Public Utilities and Environment Committee, Dr Mohammed Ali Hassan.

Commenting, Dr Al Arrayed said that the forum will focus on topics related to sustainable development goals (SDGs), noting that the forum’s sessions will discuss the role of infrastructure and industrial innovation in fostering equal opportunities, as well as in eliminating inequalities and creating inclusive communities.

The sessions will also discuss ways to ensure rural access to clean water supply, sanitation and hygiene, and focus on finding solutions to reach the poorest and the marginalised in improving their health, nutrition and productivity, he said. Dr Mohammed Ali Hassan stressed the importance of participating in the world forum as it tackles issues of top priority for various countries and communities which are seeking to achieve SDGs.

He pointed out that the Shura Council is participating in the forum to highlight Bahrain’s SDGs’ strides, and the efforts being exerted by the Legislative branch to adapt laws and legislation to the government’s programmes and plans aimed at achieving comprehensive sustainable development.
