Kingdom’s efforts to promote peace hailed
The Shura Council has expressed deep pride in the efforts being exerted by Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to support all endeavours aimed at promoting peace all over the world, through implementing international plans and goals that would achieve stability, progress and prosperity to countries and their peoples.
In a statement marking the International Day of Peace, observed around the world every September 21, and themed “Climate Action for Peace” this year, the Shura Council lauded the keenness of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, to put forward plans and strategies aimed at consolidating the values and principles of peace, both at the local and international levels.
The Shura Council asserted that the Kingdom is making continuous efforts to support peace in various ways and through the implementation of national initiatives, and clear and ambitious programmes to keep pace with the challenges related to climate change, to be able to honour its international obligations while meeting the mechanisms and requirements for mitigating climate change.
The Council pointed out that many institutions, as well as official and non-governmental bodies play a vital and important role in the development and implementation of awareness-raising and educational programmes related to climate change, adding that various groups and segments of society, especially school students, are involved in the successful implementation of these programmes. The Shura Council commended the continuous efforts, coordination and cooperation among various bodies and institutions, affirming that Bahrain was among the first countries to have ratified the Paris Climate Agreement in December 2016, in order to reaffirm its commitment to and participation with the world countries in implementing initiatives to reduce Implications of climate change.
The Shura Council also stressed that the climate change issue requires more collective action at the local and international levels, and the adoption of advanced policies that are compatible with the growing problem of greenhouse gas emissions and its negative impact on the environment, given the fact that climate change is directly related to promoting peace and ensuring a secure and safe future environment for the next generations.
The Shura Council noted that the Kingdom boasts a system of legislation and laws that protects the environment, and supports the plans and strategies developed by the parties concerned with climate change and the environment, affirming its continuous efforts to update the national legislation related to the protection of the environment.
