Forgery accused MP’s trial to begin on Oct 2

The trial of a former MP, who is accused of forgery, will begin on October 2, 2019, it has been confirmed yesterday. This was announced by Capital Governorate Chief Prosecutor Nawaf Al Awadhi, who stated that “the Public Prosecution has completed its investigations into the forgery incident”.

The Chief Prosecutor has ordered to refer the accused person to the criminal court, and confirmed a session on October 2, 2019, to consider the case before the Fourth Lower Criminal Court. Mr Al Awadhi explained in his statement that the Public Prosecution received a complaint from a person, the complainant, who signed a leasing agreement with the accused, the ex-MP, to rent the latter a gym hall. At the Civil Court, the complainant accused the suspect of not paying the rent, and demanded the unpaid amount as well as eviction from the property.

The court ordered the accused to pay the amount and to evict the property. The accused objected the verdict and appealed against it through his lawyer, by presenting forged receipts, which were attributed to the complainant. When confronted with forged documents, the accused’s lawyer stated that they were given to him by the complainant, the Prosecutors said. “The Public Prosecution has initiated the investigation procedures immediately upon receiving the case, and has questioned the incident’s witnesses and interrogated the accused.

“Moreover, the documents were referred to the forensic forgery expert for examination, and he came to the conclusion that the documents under question were forged, and that all of the text and signatures in those documents were handwritten by the accused,” Mr Al Awadhi said. The former MP was the first parliamentarian to be ousted from the House of Representatives in the history of Bahrain, after MPs unanimously voted for revoking his membership back in 2014, for continuous misconduct and disrespect of the council.
