Hubby ‘steals BD10,000 from wife to travel with girlfriend’

A Bahraini woman recently filed a lawsuit against her husband with the Public Prosecution, after he allegedly cheated on her by stealing BD10,000 from her bank account to travel with his girlfriend. According to the woman’s Defence Attorney, Fatima BinRajab, the complainant discovered that her husband travelled with another woman, after informing her that he’s going on a religious trip.

The woman also claimed that BD10,000 was withdrawn by her husband from her bank account, after he apparently took advantage of the fact that he works in the same bank to forge her signature. Ms BinRajab explained that the man was fired by the bank for forgery, but, the matter ended there as the bank didn’t report it to the concerned authorities.

“The woman reported the matter to Khamis Police Station and the man was apprehended. In front of the Public Prosecution, she has demanded a divorce from her husband, after accusing him of forgery,” Ms BinRajab said.

Clarifying further on the details of the incident, Ms BinRajab confirmed that the matter was referred to the Family and Child Prosecution, where her client waived the complaint after her husband paid her half of the amount and promised to pay the remaining after his release. The lawyer further said: “The woman preferred to not wreck her home and save their marriage, as they have two daughters together.

However, she filed another complaint against her husband, who didn’t live up to his promise and didn’t pay the remaining amount. Instead, he filed for a divorce case.” Justifying her client’s position, Ms BinRajab quoted Article 391 of the Bahraini Penal Code, which reads: “A prison sentence shall be the penalty for any person, who manages to gain possession of a movable property or instrument or to such instrument signed, revoked, damaged or altered by relying upon a fraudulent method, or by assuming a false name or improper capacity.”
