Public security volunteer service law ‘a major step’

Interior Minister and Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa held a meeting yesterday to highlight the civil defence development plans and future civil protection steps.  The meeting was attended by Chief of Public Security, Assistant Chief of Public Security for Operations and Training and Director-General of Civil Defence. The Chief highlighted the civil defence development plan that aims to expand the civil protection circle and enhance general safety.

The policy covers various fields, including training and rehabilitation of personnel to tackle certain accidents and provide high-tech tools and modern technologies. The development plan is part of the continuation to ensure preparedness for different situations and incidents. The minister highlighted that the region witnesses rapid changes and challenges affecting security and stability that require high competence and readiness. He asserted the dedication to develop long term security plans according to a clear strategic vision for better dealing with general safety-related accidents.

He highlighted the importance to enhance awareness of the public about protection steps and the continuation with holding exercises and media campaigns to inform people of essential instructions they should follow during accidents. He said that the public security voluntary service draft law comes to promote nationalism and social responsibility to protect security and stability. He said that the law bases on community partnership and the need for all to carry their duties in the protection of national security.

He hoped that the Council of Representatives would give priority to the draft protect in its next legislative session for its endorsement. Speaking on stepping up public security, the Interior Minister earlier said the Reform Project spearheaded by the King is considered highly significant, and is regarded as a national achievement and a role model throughout time to take Bahrain to a bright and secure future and protect the dignity of all segments in society. He said the Qatari and Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain aren’t new, but come in different forms.

He explained that Iran relies on fanning the flames of sectarianism to interfere in Bahrain’s internal affairs blatantly, while Qatar seeks to undermine social cohesion and damage family bonds, which represents an affront to authentic Arab and Islamic values and customs. “This is against Arabic and Islamic values,” he said.

The Interior Minister explained that the conspiracies of Qatar and Iran and their attempts to divide the nation and promote sedition will fail because of the national unity of Bahrainis and their loyalty to the King, which would enable them to meet challenges. “Qatari and Iranian conspiracies to subvert national unity and spark chaos are doomed to failure,” he said.
