SMC team carried out six kidney transplant surgeries this year

Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh yesterday visited a patient at SMC who successfully underwent kidney transplant surgery. Dr Nabil Al Asheeri, said the transplant surgery was performed at SMC by a team headed by Dr Ali Al Aradi along with expert surgeons from Jordan.

The donor was a 20-year-old woman, who donated one of her kidneys to her sister, who suffered a kidney failure. “The patient has been regularly undergoing dialysis for the past two years,” the doctors said. “Both the donor and the recipient are in a stable condition and is being subjected to medical observation and supervision.”

Dr Rani Al Agha, Head of Surgery Department at SMC, said organ donations are becoming quite popular in the Kingdom, thanks to the awareness programmes and campaigns being implemented. Dr Al Agha, hoped more donors to come forward, with rising awareness about the significance of donating organs to patients suffering from various disorders.
