Health Ministry staff accused of embezzling BD28,000

A public employee, serving as an appointment co-ordinator in the Ministry of Health, has been put on trial for embezzling BD28,000, it was revealed. The Public Prosecution said in a statement that the defendant had been pocketing the money he was receiving from expats who were admitted to hospital for treatment.

“The Public Prosecution investigated the case after receiving a complaint from the Ministry of Health about the employee’s wrongdoing. He was found to have embezzled around BD28,000, thus he was sent for trial before the High Criminal Court after he was charged with embezzlement,” Chief Prosecutor Mohammed Jamal Sultan said.

“The defendant was tasked with co-ordinating appointments for public hospitals and he was receiving money from expat patients. “He embezzled the money instead of handing over them to the accounting department,” he further explained.
