Divorce plea rejected in domestic abuse trial

The High Sharia Court has rejected a Bahraini wife’s divorce plea after failing to provide sufficient evidence for mistreatment by her husband and in-laws. The woman abandoned her home with the help of members from her family before filing a case against her husband to divorce him, according to Prosecutors.

She claimed that he wasn’t doing enough to help her cover all their home responsibilities. She also accused him of having relationships with a foreign woman but she didn’t provide any proof that supports her claims, the Prosecutors added. “He was always out with his friends, but whenever I ask about him he would say he was at work, which was a lie.

Therefore, I beg you to accept my request to divorce him,” the woman told judges at the High Sharia Court. However, several witnesses appeared before the court refuting her accusations, saying that the man was at work the moment the woman took her belongings and left the house. They revealed to the court that the pair had normal problems like any other couple. As a result, the court rejected her case.
