One-week detention for over speeding

The Public Prosecution yesterday announced that it has ordered to detain a reckless driver, who was recently caught driving over 250 km per hour on one of the Kingdom’s highways.

Traffic Prosecution Chief Prosecutor Abdulhadi Al Asfoor confirmed in a statement posted on the prosecution’s official page on Instagram that the incident recently took place on Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Salman Bridge and that Prosecution was notified about the offence by the General Directorate of Traffic.

Mr Al Asfoor added that the prosecution summoned the driver, interrogated him and ordered his detention for one week, in order to refer him to the concerned criminal court. In the interrogation, the driver confessed to the offence and justified his action by informing interrogators that he was “absent-minded and did not pay attention to his speed”.
