A tumour weighing six kilograms has been removed from the abdomen of a woman at Salmaniya Medical Complex.
A medical team from the department of obstetrics and gynaecology conducted the delicate surgery on the 55-year-old patient.
The patient suffered from severe pain, abdominal distension and haemorrhage, which continued for two weeks, prompting doctors to conduct the three-hour surgery and remove the tumour.
Led by Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr. Wafa Ajur, the team included Dr. Ahlam Janahi, Dr. Mohammed Yusuf, Dr. Yusuf Barhoum, Dr. Jawaher Al Jalahma, Dr. Omar Bahr, Dr. Hussain Mirza and Dr. Bilal Abu Baker, in addition to the anaesthetists and nurses.
“The patient is doing well and is being kept under medical observation,” Dr. Ajur
said.
She stressed the importance of conducting a study into the alarming increase in the number of patients suffering from tumours, urging the intensification of early screening to avert any health complications.
