Key media role stressed

Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia Zainal, has lauded the role played by responsible media and press in the comprehensive development march spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

She cited the royal directives to support the national press so as to be able to assume its role according to the best professional practices, highlighting the responsible freedom of opinion and expressing prevailing in the Kingdom, in accordance with laws and national fundamentals. 

While meeting press and media personnel who are covering the sessions of the Council of Representatives, the speaker expressed deep pride in the role played by the media and the press, as well as in their competencies and expertise they have. She also appreciated the role played by the press and the media to serve the nation and the citizens through raising all issues and topics according to responsible freedom of opinion and expression.

She affirmed that the parliamentary media in the press and media outlets in the Kingdom enjoys all kinds of support so as to facilitate its duties, welcoming the formation of a joint committee between the Representatives Council’s Secretariat-General and the parliamentary media.

She pointed out that the new press and media law will be discussed by the Council of Representatives in the coming period, adding that joint meetings will be held among the relevant parties to reach a consensual vision that takes into consideration the top interests of the nation and its future, as well as support the responsible media to reflect the modern civilised approach of the Kingdom.
