Al Hilal Hospital roadshow ‘aims to increase diabetes awareness’

Al Hilal Hospital and Bahrain Public Transport Company under the patronage of National Health Regulatory Authority in association with the Ministry of Transportation is organising roadshows to create awareness on diabetes. The first-of-its-kind event in the Kingdom kicked off on November 14, marking the World Diabetes Day. The roadshows, which will cover almost all landmarks in the Kingdom, will end on November 30.

Apart from bringing in awareness on the disease, the roadshows will also provide a platform for people to consult doctors in the bus and obtain a mini comprehensive body checkup coupons. The team from Al Hilal Hospital will be conducting screening for diabetes by checking blood sugar levels and blood pressure. The people will also get benefited by health talk by doctors on topics related to healthy lifestyle, healthy eating habits, complications of diabetes etc. The event was inaugurated and flagged off by Dr Maha Al Kawari, Head of Health Facilities Regulation.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Maha said, “It’s indeed commendable to see the efforts Al Hilal Hospital is taking to raise awareness about diabetes to all the residents of the kingdom. This way we will be directly able to improve the quality of life. The NHRA is happy to be associated with such awareness initiatives.” Representing the Ministry of Transportation, Ali Hasan Ghuloom, Head of National Carrier Operations Monitoring said, “These efforts will help all the people of Bahrain by raising their awareness of diabetes and will help reducing life threatening complications arising out of this disease.”

Dr Sharath Chandran, Chief Executive Officer of Al Hilal Hospital said, “Al Hilal always prioritise carrying out awareness campaigns on various diseases to inform the public. The plan is to screen at least 5,000 residents and educate the ones who have diabetes or are in the stage of pre-diabetes to ensure they have better quality of life.”
