Leadership congratulated over BRAVE Combat Week success

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Charity Works, the National Security Advisor, President of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports has affirmed that the Kingdom has proved once again its capabilities in holding major MMA events following the tremendously successful BRAVE International Combat Week, which featured the sixth edition of the Amateur World Championship and BRAVE 31 as well as the first KHK International Open Championship.

The one-week event concluded on Saturday, taking place at Khali- fa Sports City’s GYM. “Bahrain has achieved enormous success in the MMA sport thanks to the spon- sorship and support it’s receiving from HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

“This backing has allowed the Kingdom of Bahrain to occupy a leading position in this sport fol- lowing the victories made by our Bahraini champions,” HH Shaikh Nasser said.

“We are happy with the efforts being exerted by the Combat Sports Council under the chair- manship of HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa,” he added.

The event wrapped up in the presence of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Presi- dent of Bahrain Olympic Committee.

Bahrain stole the limelight in the event after winning 14 medals, including five golds, three silvers and six bronzes.

On this occasion, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa conveyed his sincere congratula- tions to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Com- mander and First Deputy Prime Minister and HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He praised the Kingdom’s men after enabling Bahrain to main- tain its position on top of the IM- MAF-WMMAA’s MMA ranking at the global level. 

“This global achievement which occurred on Bahrain’s soil is a historical one. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support and patronage of HM the King to the MMA sport. I take this opportunity to highlight the con- tributions of HH Shaikh Nasser as they have played a backbone role in this success,” he further added.

Bahraini fighters have claimed a total of 14 medals in the event but the Kingdom’s medal tally was only eight before the final day.

The new six medals, four of which were gold and the other two were silver, came thanks three men and one woman, namely Sabrina Di Souza who won the gold medal after defeating her Italian counterpart Yasmeen Fafiro.

The second medal was contributed by Ramadan Jetinov who emerged victorious in the final game versus his countryman Zajid Jidarov.

Murtadah Talha gifted the Kingdom the third gold medal after winning the final match against compatriot Mu Mjeed.

The final gold medal was won by Basha Kharsheef who defeated Rasool Khatayef.
