10 years in prison for drug dealers

The High Criminal Court has sentenced two drug dealers to 10 years behind bars each for peddling drugs. The defendants were both fined BD5,000 too.

The duo includes a 30-year-old man, who was already convicted in another drug case and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but in absentia. Therefore, he will now serve 20 years behind bars.  The 30-year-old man was arrested after police offices received a tip-off that he was peddling drugs in Sitra and he was very cautious when it comes to dealing with customers and uncovering his location.

Anti-drug officers extracted an arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution and headed to his whereabouts in order to nab him.  They surrounded his place, but he tried to escape with his co-defendant, who was with him at the house. However, they were both arrested and police officers found 1,000 narcotic pills in their possession.

“I buy the drugs from another man and I re-sell them. I purchase them in bulk and do retail sales,” the defendant said.  Both defendants were held guilty of selling drugs.
