Eighth edition of farmers’ market to kick off next month

The highly-popular farmers’ market will kick off mid-December, it was revealed yesterday. Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Dr Nabil Mohammed Abu Al Fatah revealed that the eighth edition of the farmer’s market will return on 14th December. He said that the organising committee has already started preparations for the launch earlier than usual this year, having many activities planned for the event.

He said that the organising committee will ensure that the produce sold at the market will be domestic produce only. He said that a diverse range of activities will be part of the market with many events planned over. The farmers market is expected to get off to a packed start with thousands of people visiting the market. Last year, the extremely popular market was packed every week. The five months long market provides a platform for local farmers to sell their fresh produce to the public.

The market is set up at the Agriculture Centre in Budaiya Botanical Garden. The market was established to promote Bahrain’s homegrown agricultural produce and to support local farmers. Over the years, it has become extremely popular with thousands visiting to purchase at the market every week from December to April every year. 

Apart from the agricultural produce, it also features a section for traditional crafts, restaurants, and an entertainment activities for children. The market is being held every Saturday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and will end on April 27. Another farmers market is being organised at Hoorat A’ali.

The Hoorat A’ali market is organised by the the National Initiative for Agricultural Development with the co-operation of Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) and the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and Urban Planning and has also been a huge success. The market has emerged a weekly destination for many families to buy vegetables since launching.
