OIC support for Islamic nations lauded at Golden Jubilee event
On behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary for International Affairs, Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, participated in the Golden Jubilee ceremony of the establishment of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), which was held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Amongst the attendees were, HRH Prince Khaled Al Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Province, Saudi Foreign Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of Tolerance, as well as number of foreign ministers of the OIC Member States, and a number of diplomats, journalists and intellectuals.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla expressed his pleasure to represent the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Golden Jubilee ceremony of the OIC, which is considered the the second largest intergovernmental organisation after the United Nations and has played a prominent and active role in serving the causes of the Islamic world and supporting joint action for the rule of peace and development throughout the world.
The Undersecretary for International Affairs thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting this ceremony, which reflects its tireless efforts in serving Islamic issues, activating and enhancing the role of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in consolidating security and peace, and addressing various challenges.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla highlighted the achievements of OIC work, especially with regard to the fixed positions on the issues of the Islamic world, especially the Palestinian cause, and the crisis in many Member States, as well as combating extremism and terrorism and supporting the issues of Muslim minorities in the world in light of the Islamophobia epidemic, as Muslims constitute the highest proportion of displaced persons and refugees as a result of crises and conflicts.
The Undersecretary for International Affairs pointed out the importance of considering developing the mechanisms of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation as an urgent necessity to face regional and international challenges, remove false claims about the true religion, and achieve the aspirations of the Islamic peoples in a more stable and prosperous future.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla expressed his pride in the consecutive praises of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in appreciation of the comprehensive reform approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Organisation’s appreciation of the initiatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain in various fields, including the promotion of Islamic values, such as tolerance, peaceful coexistence and the rejection of intolerance.
The Undersecretary for International Affairs reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to the principles and objectives set forth in the Charter of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to strengthen unity and solidarity among the peoples of the Member States, to prevent interference in their internal affairs and to support sustainable development efforts. The ceremony honoured prominent Islamic figures who have made a significant impact on the rise and development of the Muslim world.
