Huawei emphasises 5G Ecosystem, AI and Cloud as the foundation of Bahrain digital hub
Under the patronage of HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology, and in the attendance of Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Jawad bin Salem Al Arrayed, Deputy Prime Minister, and other ministers and senior business executives in Bahrain, Huawei held an event to celebrate its 15th anniversary of local operations in Bahrain. During the ceremony, Charles Yang, President of Huawei Middle East, gave a speech which highlighted the company’s unique contributions in Bahrain throughout the past 15 years and stressed the company’s commitment and promise of ‘In Bahrain, for Bahrain’.
“Huawei’s vision is to bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world. We are committed to bringing the latest technologies and resources to Bahrain, and will continue to invest in joint innovation with our customers and partners as well as local ICT talent development to support the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030,” said Charles Yang, President, Huawei Middle East. He highlighted that 5G, AI and Cloud will be the three key pillars that will lay the foundation of the Bahrain Digital Hub and will help all industries to be able to effectively use ICT to achieve new heights in the intelligent world. He also addressed the three top areas of focus for Huawei’s efforts in enabling the Kingdom’s future digital transformation.
As an industry pioneer, today Huawei is at the forefront of innovation and is a leading provider of safe city solutions globally. So far, Huawei has supported 700+ cities in 100+ countries around the world to build safe cities. The company is committed to work together with the government to help Bahrain in building a safe, efficient and intelligent kingdom aligned with the national vision. 5G and AI will enhance the ways in which future societies live, work, and interact with the world.
In today’s digital economy, information, technology and talent development are the key priorities to realize the full potential of digital transformation and create a digital hub. Huawei will continuously support the Kingdom to become a digital hub through joint innovation projects that provide the latest and next generation ICT technology. ICT talent is crucial for creating future jobs and supporting sustainable development in realizing the national vision. Huawei has led various initiatives within Bahrain to support the next generation of ICT talent, including Seeds for the Future talent development program, ICT Competition, and various work-readiness initiatives run in partnership with the Labour Fund “Tamkeen”. Nurturing talented young Bahrainis and empowering them with the skills required to carry on their country’s digital legacy is one of our key priorities for the future.
Huawei plans to cultivate 100+ youth as Huawei Seeds, cover 800 students in the ICT competition, and provide ICT certification to 2,000+ technical talents over the next three years. During the past 15 years, Huawei has made significant local investments including hiring of 500+ employees, creating 800+ jobs, developing 50+ local partners, cultivating 40+ future talent seeds, and knowledge transfer to 10,000+ trainees.
