‘The Legends Team’ join Ironman 70.3 Bahrain field

Three of the world’s most decorated athletes will be competing as one team in the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship Bahrain, taking place this Saturday across the Kingdom. Appropriately named as The Legends Team, the trio of swimmer Chloe McCardel, cyclist Mark Cavendish and runner Sir Mo Farah will be headlining the participants in this gruelling endurance race.

They are participating upon the invitation of Bahrain and their involvement has generated tremendous excitement amongst those taking part along with race fans. McCardel arrived on the island yesterday and was welcomed by officials. Cavendish and Farah are scheduled to reach Bahrain this evening. They will all be appearing at The Avenues Bahrain tomorrow.

Swimmer Chloe McCardel is a part of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and was named International Marathon Swimmer of the Year in 2014 and 2015. She is most known for her solo crossings of the English Channel and World-record longest open water ocean swim. Cycling star Mark Cavendish MBE, also known as “Manx Missile”, made his first big impact on the Grand Tours with victories and by becoming the most successful British cyclist overnight at the age of 22.

He is a double Madison World champion and Commonwealth Games gold-medallist on the track. Sir Mo Farah, CBE, is a multiple Olympic, World and European champion and is widely considered as being the UK’s greatest ever athlete. Farah has an impeccable record of 10 gold medals to his name at successive World championships and Olympic Games. He was also the first athlete to win three long-distance doubles at successive World championship and Olympic Games.
