Plan to ban closed rooms at sheesha cafes
Banning closed rooms in sheesha cafes is being considered by the authorities. The Ministry of Health in co-operation with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism is considering the ban of closed rooms in sheesha cafes. Many sheesha cafes have a closed ‘VIP’ rooms where patrons pay a specific fees to be able to sit with privacy.
However, the Ministry of Health is considering a ban on the practice due to various concerns. They said that mainly youth, use these cabins for promiscuous activities. Meanwhile, a new law will come into place which would enforce tough punishment on those who serve sheesha in public areas, walkways, praying areas and commercial streets.
“Sheesha is not permissible in public areas, walkways, praying areas and commercial streets. “A new clause has been issued in decree 83 that gives the Health Ministry complete jurisdiction over sheesha places,” an official from the Capital Municipal Council said.
