Tribute to brave heroes

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, patronised a ceremony marking the Commemoration Day, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, at Al Sakhir Palace yesterday.

Upon arrival, HM the King was welcomed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, National Guard Commander, General Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa and Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

HM the King then headed to the podium and the royal anthem was played. Verses of the Holy Quran were recited and the artillery fired one shot for a minute of silence to be observed. Court of Cassation’s Sharia Department Chairman and Al Fateh Mosque Imam, Shaikh Adnan bin Abdulla Al Qattan, delivered a speech paying homage to the martyrs of duty.

He paid tribute to HM King Hamad for dedicating the 17th of December to be marked every year as the Commemoration Day, in tribute to the martyrs of duty. He hailed the sacrifices they had made while defending their religion and nation, praying to Allah the Almighty to rest the souls of fallen servicemen from Bahrain, the GCC and the Saudi-led Arab Coalition in eternal peace.

After that, HM King Hamad watered a palm tree, the symbol of eternal life.

In a statement marking the occasion, HM the King paid homage to the valiant fallen Bahrainis who sacrificed their lives and died honourably on the battlefield, performing their sacred duties since the establishment of the Bahraini state as an Arab and Muslim country by its founder, Ahmed Al Fateh, in 1783, thus embodying the highest values of courage and redemption, and becoming a source of inspiration for the coming generations.

HM the King stressed that the Commemoration Day will remain a shining milestone for a nation proud of its heroes who sacrificed their lives, in Bahrain and abroad, to achieve justice and defend the homeland’s security and sovereignty.

HM the King paid tribute to the martyrs’ families which are as brave as their beloved who fell in the line of duty, defending their homeland, hailing their courage, resilience and patriotism. HM King Hamad commended loyal citizens who remained cohesive and showed sympathy and solidarity with the relatives of the fallen servicemen.

HM the King prayed to Allah the Almighty to rest the martyrs’ souls in eternal peace, wishing Bahrain further progress and prosperity. Later, HM the King, accompanied by HRH the Crown Prince, visited the National Action Charter Monument where he was welcomed by the Education Minister, Dr Majid Al Nuaimi.

HM the King met senior officers marking the annual Commemoration Day. On the occasion, HM the King stressed that importance of the Commemoration Day, which coincides with the Kingdom’s celebrations of its National Days.
