Monthly income cap for waterproofing roofs may be raised

The salary cap for Bahrainis to be eligible for free waterproofing roofs could be increased to BD800. It is learnt that the Capital Municipality has recommended to change the minimum income requirement of Bahraini households to be increased to BD800. Currently, if a Bahraini breadwinner earns BD600, the household is eligible to request free rainproof service.

The municipal council hopes to increase the salary ceiling to BD800. “There are many households deserving of this service, this is why we want to increase the salary ceiling to BD800,” a municipal source said. Reportedly, the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning has completed around 8,000 requests for waterproofing ceilings since 2007. The ministry stated that all requests related to waterproofs were managed under a smooth mechanism without any delay.

“The total number of waterproof requests listed under the project for the development of cities and villages in all Bahraini governorates reached about 7,813 since 2007 till the beginning of July 2018,” a ministry source said. “The total number of requests was 531 in the Capital Governorate, 321 in Muharraq Governorate, 3,704 in the Northern Governorate, 2,832 in the abolished Central Governorate from 2007 till 2014 and 425 requests in the Southern Governorate.”

The source stated that the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, represented by the urban development administration, has achieved the project objectives by completing all requests for waterproofs from the municipal councils, noting that the project was positively received by the citizens.

The source mentioned that the ministry has overcome some challenges faced in implementing the project, and have managed, through the joint efforts of the ministry and the municipal councils, to set solutions to achieve the objectives of the ministry by facilitating the procedures and requirements to benefit from the waterproofs service.
