Multi-storey parking buildings planned

The Northern Governorate is planning to construct multi-level parking centres in the governorate. This came as the Northern Municipal Council approved a proposal to allocate land for multi-storey parking centres.

The purpose of these parking centres, according to the proposal, is to serve as private parking facilities for citizens and residents. The municipal councillors said that there is a shortage of parking spaces.

Council member Faisal Mohammed Shabib said that the parking area would serve to protect people’s vehicles from bad weather.  In another development, the Committee for Services and Public Utilities submitted a proposal to construct a walkway in Hamad Town Block 1215.

The committee, in its report, proposed to beautify the area as well as to plant greenery and take eco-friendly steps. Meanwhile, a proposal to create smart speed bumps to reduce speeding has been approved. The smart speed bumps, according to the proposal, would reduce costs and will come with electronic features. The proposal was submitted by council chairman Ahmed Al Kooheji.

He said that the asphalt road bumps suffers downsides such as increased costs, low visibility to drivers and high maintenance. The main feature of the smart speed bumps is that it will retract for drivers driving under the speed limit but stay extended for speeding cars.
