Bahrain chairs OAPEC’s 103rd ministerial meeting in Kuwait
Oil Minister, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, chaired the 103rd ministerial meeting of the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC).
While opening the meeting, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa welcomed the ministers and heads of delegations, noting that the event is a good opportunity to exchange information and expertise, as well as discuss the latest global developments in the oil field.
He also welcomed Dr. Khalid Ali Al-Fadhel, Kuwait’s Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water Oil, who attended his first OAPEC meeting.
He also valued highly the warm welcome and hospitality accorded by the State of Kuwait to the participants in the meeting.
He pointed out that OAPEC meetings contribute to reaching positive results that serve the oil and gas sectors in the member states, as well as achieve the goals of the organisation since its establishment in 1982.
The minister reviewed the main oil and gas projects implemented by Bahrain, citing the Bapco Modernisation Programme (BMP), the third gas plant of Bahrain National Gas Company (Banagas), the liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal, in addition to other vital projects aimed at boosting the national economy, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
He underlined the keenness of Bahrain, represented by the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA), to participate in such high-profile meetings, as they provide platforms to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and launch joint projects that would benefit the oil, gas and energy sector in the kingdom.
The 103rd OAPEC ministerial meeting discussed the topics on its agenda, mainly ways to strengthen cooperation among member states in the fields of oil, gas and energy.
It also decided that Iraq should continue overseeing the Arab Petroleum Training Institute (APTI), which is a specialised oil and gas institute.
In the end of the meeting, OAPEC ministerial council chairman sent a cable to the Kuwaiti Amir, HH Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in which he expressed, on behalf of the ministers, sincere thanks, appreciation and gratitude to him for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to them, wishing sisterly Kuwait further progress and prosperity.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Oil Minister, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa, held meetings with his counterparts from member states on ways to strengthen economic relations and deepen oil cooperation between Bahrain and their countries.
Bahrain, represented by NOGA’s Deputy CEO for Strategies and International Relations, Faihan Al-Faihani, also participated in the 155th OAPEC Executive Bureau meeting, also hosted by Kuwait on December 19-20, ahead of the 103rd ministerial meeting.
