Woman granted divorce in domestic abuse case
The High Sharia Court has put an end to the suffering of a woman in her twenties by granting her divorce from husband, who was allegedly beating and insulting her. The woman is said to have received inhuman treatment from her husband to the point that she was expelled from the house after subjecting to physical and verbal assault.
From that day, according to her lawyer, she was living in her father’s house. Ironically, the husband lodged a counter case against her, demanding her to return to the house. “My client suffered a lot during her marriage. She was once admitted to a hospital after he attacked her and she filed a complaint against him at the police.
“However, she dropped it after he apologised,” the woman’s lawyer told the court earlier. “He also tried to stain her reputation by telling others she was dating a man and consuming alcohol,” she added.
On the other hand, the defence witnesses refuted such claims stating that the pair were having normal issues that are common in any marital life.
Nevertheless, the court ruled in favour of the woman, stating that it didn’t feel reassured by the defence witnesses’ statement. The court pointed out that the woman wouldn’t have left her house without a valid reason.
