Classroom altercation: Ministry denies video

Manama

Following a video clip that went viral on local social media accounts, showing two public school students destroying a classroom’s furniture, the Education Ministry has denied such an incident.

The video showed two boys hurling chairs and desks at each other. In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the incident occurred in a public secondary boys’ school in April 2013.

As the video footage took the centre stage, Public Relations and Media Directorate revealed that the altercation happened prior to the beginning of classes and an investigation had been launched into the incident back then.

The Directorate also confirmed that as a result of the investigation, disciplinary procedures had been taken against the students involved, in accordance with the school disciplinary norms. It added that the parents of the violating students were obliged to compensate the damage caused by their children to the school furniture.

The Education Ministry concluded the statement by affirming that it didn’t hesitate before implementing the school educational and disciplinary procedures against violators, aiming at curbing such misbehaviour among students.

Social media users shared the two-minute video among each other, claiming that it occurred in a public school during the first week of the current school year, 2015-16.
