GCC man faces trial over bid to smuggle drugs

The High Criminal Court began hearing the case of a GCC national caught hiding 3,000 narcotic pills in his slippers.

The defendant arrived at Bahrain International Airport on a transit flight coming from an Arab country, according to Prosecutors.

However, he was arrested in the Kingdom before boarding the second plane after customs officials doubted his behaviour.

The accused man told Prosecutors that he visited the Arab country for treatment. And before leaving, he went to a disco and another Arab man offered to sell him the pills for 5,000 Saudi riyals.

“I accepted his proposal directly. Because in my country they are worth more than Saudi riyal 20,000,” he told prosecutors. The man claimed that the pills were only for personal use.

However, he was accused of attempting to sell them, which means he will receive a heavy punishment if found guilty.
