Special directive to beautify streets, intersections
Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, has instructed the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to intensify its efforts and develop a work programme to grow plants along the main streets and at intersections, as well as to beautify them, according to standard criteria.
He stressed that taking care of green surfaces has become an essential requirement for preserving the balance of the environment, adding that landscaping contributes to reducing road accidents and gives a positive impression to the Kingdom’s visitors.
He asserted that since the establishment of the modern state in Bahrain, the government has been interested in green surfaces, noting that the beautification and afforestation works should go hand in hand with all projects to give them a special splendour and beauty, being an integral part of the Kingdom’s civilisational image.
The Deputy Premier was speaking while touring a number of streets and main intersections, where he was informed about their aesthetic aspects. Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister, Essam Khalaf, and Works Ministry’s officials accompanied Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla during his field tour.
The Deputy Prime Minister gave directives to the Works Ministry to put forward a guide book including the necessary regulations and criteria to co-ordinate the aesthetic aspects at the main streets and junctions, according to their location, to ensure a unified format for green areas in the kingdom.
He instructed the Ministry to take advantage of experts, and to develop national competencies in the field of agricultural engineering and design.
He also gave directives to the same Ministry to grow local or imported sustainable plants that are capable of adapting to the local weather conditions, in addition to carrying on planting palm trees, as they reflect the depth of national identity of the Kingdom.
