Man pays heavy price for ‘loyalty towards wife’

A Bahraini man had to pay a heavy price for his loyalty towards his wife after he mortgaged his house to enable her obtain a BD60,000 loan.

Within a few months, the woman would divorce her husband following a disagreement between them. Following divorce, the woman did not pay the monthly instalments, forcing the bank to approach her ex-husband, who had no other option but to sell the property to avoid being jailed.

As a result, the man filed a complaint against his divorcee, demanding the court to take action. “The woman is said to have been obliged to settle the loan in five years. However, she defaulted the payment.”

“My client was very kind to offer to mortgage his own house to receive the loan. “But she reciprocated by asking for divorce and later defaulting on payments,” the man’s lawyer said in her closing argument.

And the court ruled in the man’s favour, ordering the woman to pay BD53,000.
