A man found guilty of bludgeoning his close friend to death with a hammer over money has been jailed for life. Police found the victim, a 35-year-old Asian national, in a pool of blood with serious head injuries in a house Tubli following a tip-off.
The Head of the Hoora Police Station in the Capital Governorate said they caught the suspect while he was attempting to escape from the crime scene. Police reached the scene to look into a complaint regarding a noisy fight in a house in Tubli. Medical examiners said that the victim suffered heavy blows on his head using a “hard object”.
The suspect claimed he was acting in self-defence while committing the crime. The incident leading to the brutality occurred when the suspect questioned the victim about the money they were saving for a work permit in the Kingdom.
During police interrogation, the suspect confessed that they were high on alcohol at that time. He told investigators that they saved around Bd1,700 for obtaining a work permit.
“However, when I asked him about my visa, he tried to dodge me,” he said. “I then decided to leave the place and started walking down the stairs.
“Then I overheard him saying that he would kill me, before attacking me with a hammer. “He hit on my head, but I managed to grab the hammer from his hand and used it against him,” the suspect told investigators.
