Southern governorate kick-starts food safety campaign

Stringent measures are being taken to ensure the quality of food materials as well as its storage facilities in the shops in the Kingdom, said a top official.

Khalid Abdullatif Hajji, Southern Governorate’s Engineering and Investment Services Director, said the governorate has kick-started an awareness and inspection campaign in the Kingdom’s commercial area.

The campaign, under the directives of Southern Governor His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, was organised by the Southern Governorate in cooperation with Health Ministry and Municipality of the Governorate.

Abdullatif Hajji said yesterday’s inspection was the first amongst a series of inspections planned to ensure the quality of food materials. He said shops are required to meet Bahrain’s health quality requirements in the storing and processing of food materials.

Inspectors from the Health Ministry and Municipality also verified the validity of the commercial registration allotted to the shops. Officials visited about 17 shops, including restaurants, and reviewed their abidance of the health and security requirements.
