Need for advanced training in aquaculture stressed

Fifteen Bahrainis have graduated from a course on the techniques of aquaculture, implemented by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, as part of its strategy to launch marine food security initiatives.

Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam Khalaf, patronised the graduation ceremony of the 15 fish farming competencies, in the presence of the Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary, Dr Nabeel Mohammed Abu Al Fateh, Assistant Undersecretary for Agricultural Affairs, Dr Abdulaziz Mohammed Abdulkareem, in addition to a number of officials from the Labour Fund (Tamkeen).

During the ceremony, the participants in the national programme to train Bahraini competencies on fish farming techniques were honoured. The minister underlined the importance of the aquaculture file, in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to focus on fish farming thanks to its role in achieving sustainable food security in the Kingdom.

He noted that the national strategy to develop aquaculture will contribute to bringing about a qualitative leap in fish production over the next five years, which, he said, requires the cooperation of various government departments to remove all potential obstacles. Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary, Dr Nabeel Mohammed Abu Al Fateh, expressed pride in the existing successful cooperation with Tamkeen to train local fish farmers as a result of the agreement signed between the two sides.

Tamkeen’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Janahi, stressed Tamkeen’s unwavering support for initiatives aimed at boosting the national economy and preparing qualified national competencies, as the best means to achieve sustainable development in the Kingdom.

He lauded the existing cooperation with the Works Ministry’s Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretariat, affirming Tamkeen’s readiness to carry on its cooperation with it to provide more opportunities for Bahraini youth in the field of fish farming.
