Proposal to reduce Ramadan working hours rejected
A parliamentary proposal to reduce the number of working hours to four and a half hours in government offices during Ramadan has been rejected by the Government. Parliamentarians wanted to reduce the number of working hours in government offices from six hours to four and a half hours.
However, the proposal was rejected by the government. A government committee that examined the proposal stated that such a change would negatively impact the quality of services provided to citizens during the month of Ramadan. The committee stated that the reduction is too much and could not be approved.
“The reduction is too high and not needed at the time. “Such a change could have repercussions for citizens as well. The change would put pressure on the private sector to reduce the working hours as well.” Currently, the working hours at government bodies such as ministries, public authorities and institutions is from 8 am to 2pm.
The Daily Tribune reported previously that MPs were lobbying to reduce the number of working hours in Ramadan. According to the MPs, the working hours needed to be reduced as the employees at government institutions would be observing fast in Ramadan and needed more rest time.
