Bahraini team completes special stage at Dakar 2020
The first day of Dakar 2020 went very well for the Bahrain’s Team Wheels Of Arabia.
Bahraini Champion Salman Mohammed who is the rider with Team Wheels of Arabia successfully completed Stage 1 on the first day of Dakar 2020 in Saudi Arabia.
Salman had to start his first Dakar stage at 5:20 am. The day started with 200 km of liaison that led to the start of the special stage.
It was pretty cold in the morning during the liaison but that changed once the riders started their special stage. According to Salman he did not encounter any difficulties during the special stages, although he said there were some tougher sections with big rocks. After 3 km’s there was a big crash with one of the riders. Because there were already other riders with the crashed rider, Salman continued. He was able to maintain a steady pace and he said it wasn’t to hard to do. He soon realized the hard work he did for the last months in the gym and the running was paying off.
Also the navigation went well on day 1. At the first waypoint (at 48 km) Salman came through in place 108. At waypoint 4 (158 km) he managed to climb up to place 102.
Just before the refueling point at approximately 200 km the first car caught up with Salman. The cars started after the bikes but because they can maintain a higher speed they will catch up with the bikes during the race.
Salman finished the day at position 99.
A very good result for a rookie in the toughest rally in the world. The first day ended with a very good result and without any difficulties. Salman is ready for the next stage!!!
Team Wheels Of Arabia was formed keeping in mind the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister to promote motorsports in Bahrain.
