Iconic actress passes away

Egyptian iconic actress Magda Al Sabahi passed away aged 89 after a long strong with illness, Middle East News Agency (MENA) announced yesterday. The actress, Afaf Kamel Al Sabahi, was born on  May 5, 1939 Tanta, in Gharbia governorate. She marked the Egypt’s 1950s and 1960s, featuring during her long prolific cinema career in over 60 films.

 She rose to fame particularly for her roles in El-Naseh (1949), Malish hadh (1954), Hegret El-Rasoul, Ayna Omry (1957), Banat ElYom (1957), Al-Ragol Allazy Ohebo (1962), El-Omr Lahza (1978), among many others She played the leading role in Youssef Chahine’s historical film Djamila l’Algérienne (1958), which tackles the life of Djamila, one of the most remarkable revolutionary women of Algeria. 

In 2016 she won the Nile Art Award, the highest in Egypt. She was also honoured by the Egyptian State marking the Art Day.
