Sufficient livestock to meet Eid demand: BLC

Manama

A vessel carrying 25,000 cattle-heads is set to arrive today, officials confirmed.

The shipment comes as part of several consignments of livestock that are being imported to meet the high demand during Eid Al Adha season.

Bahrain Livestock Company (BLC) Board of Directors Chairman Ebrahim Zainal confirmed in a press statement that Bahrain has sufficient livestock of Australian and Somalian sheep. Zainal explained that the expected consumption during Eid holidays would vary between 6,000 to 10,000 heads of livestock. He added the company would continue to import frozen meat during and after Eid. Zainal also revealed that the next shipment of cattle is expected by the beginning of October.

Eid Al Adha, which is also known as the feast of the sacrifice or Qurbani in some parts of the world, falls on the day that follows the Hajj rite (pilgrimage) and continues for three days.

Muslims sacrifice cattle and share it among friends, family and the poor during these days, besides other celebrations and festivities.
