Verdict tomorrow in ‘Galali Parking Spot stabbing’ case
A Bahraini man who allegedly stabbed his neighbour in Galali last year over a parking spot dispute will learn his fate tomorrow, as the First High Criminal Court earlier announced that it will announce its verdict on January 28, 2020.
The court, which reviewed the medical report determining the mental status of the defendant last December, earlier decided to adjourn the case to the aforesaid date to announce its final verdict. Tribune reported earlier that the defendant is facing the charge of attempted murder, after he stabbed the victim multiple times, before escaping the spot, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.
The psychiatry report mentioned that the defendant does not suffer from any organic diseases or auditory hallucinations, however, the report showed that he suffers from a slight mental retardation and cannot judge complex or medium matters. It was also revealed that he has a file at the Psychiatry Hospital, the only public psychiatry hospital in the Kingdom, since 2011.
The report showed that the defendant has not followed up with the hospital on a regular basis.
The stabbing incident took place on February 12, 2019, in Galali in Muharraq Governorate, where the suspect was arrested on the same day. Investigations revealed that the accused had the intention to kill the victim, as he prepared a knife for this purpose and monitored the victim’s movements, while the latter was walking on the public road when the stabbing happened, according to Prosecutors.
Despite the defendant’s repeated denials, an eyewitness informed the prosecutors that he saw the suspect stabbing the victim while the latter was on the floor. The witness also informed that the suspect fled the scene and left the victim bleeding on the floor.
