Education Minister launches scout initiative

Manama

An initiative aimed at integrating students with special needs to become scouts was launched in the Kingdom yesterday.

This is the first time such an initiative is being implemented in a Gulf Co-operation Country (GCC).

Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi announced, during a ceremony which was held at the National Action Monument, the initiative themed “Together we bring joy and nurture culture of integration”.

Under the first phase, a batch of 68 students with special needs from different school levels have joined the scout initiative.

The students who were integrating into public schools suffer from physical and mental disabilities, in addition to sight and hearing impairment.

Forty other students who are members of the support team have also joined the initiative.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Al Nuaimi underlined the ministry’s continuous efforts to integrate students with special needs in public schools and activities, and enable them to overcome their health conditions.

Dr Al Nuaimi conferred the initiative badge on the scouts with special needs and honoured scouts and leaders taking part in the initiative.

He also honoured a group of female diff-abled scouts.
