Corporate governance and human resources are two vital elements for any civil society group to succeed, said social entrepreneur and Managing Trustee of 'Hand in Hand India', Dr Kalpana Sankar.
Dr Kalpana, who is an Indian national, is among the winners of the sixth edition HRH Princess Sabeeka Award.
"Corporate governance is of high importance as we are handling public funds. This should be supported by a strong human resources team, who see this as not just a job, but as a mission in their life."
'Hand in Hand India' has successfully implemented many social entrepreneurship programmes in partnership with local governments not only in India but also in South Africa, Afghanistan, Brazil, Cambodia and Sri Lanka.
Dr Kalpana said her visions were shaped by the experience as a government employee. "We are basically investing in people, and this requires right experience, strategies and vision."
The Chennai-based 'Hand in Hand India' has won many accolades including Bal Kalyan Puraskar award for their work in the area of child rights and child labour elimination.
The NGO took upon itself to first ensure that children’s childhoods are given back to them. 'Hand in Hand India' now works with 1,165 panchayats across the country, ensuring education to children. 'Hand in Hand India' is also offering micro-finance services to the needy, especially in rural India.
