Public health 'top priority'

TDT/Manama

The Ministry of Health continues to prioritise the health and safety of citizens and residents in light of the Coronavirus (COVID19) through the regular examination and monitoring of suspected cases, the ministry said in a statement issued yesterday.

The ministry confirmed all cases examined have produced negative results.

The ministry, in co-ordination with other related entities, continues to enact strict precautionary measures that are in line with international standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO), to prevent the spread of contagious diseases, including the designation of a number of isolation spaces.

The ministry confirmed that it had referred twenty suspected cases for isolation, for a duration of 14 days, in line with these procedures.

The ministry has advised citizens and residents to take precautionary measures to ensure their continued safety, including regularly washing their hands, covering their mouths and noses while coughing and sneezing, in addition to avoiding close contact with anyone experiencing symptoms of respiratory disease or suffering from acute respiratory infections.

It also stressed the importance of avoiding close contact with farm or wild animals.

The Kingdom has urged citizens to avoid travelling to China, Iran, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea due to the outbreak of COVID19.

Strict entry restrictions have been introduced to limit movement from these countries.

Bahraini citizens and residents, as well as GCC citizens, who have travelled from or transited through any part of infected countries, will be required to undergo medical examinations recommended by the WHO.

The ministry has called upon all citizens and residents who are experiencing symptoms of COVID19, including a fever, coughing and difficulty breathing, or those who have travelled to one of the countries infected with the disease or have interacted with a person traveling from any of those locations, or interacted with an infected patient, to isolate themselves, call 444, and follow the instructions given by the medical team, and avoid close contact with others.
