Royal pardon reflects Kingdom’s reforms, rights protection steps

Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia Zainal, has stressed that the issuance of a royal decree by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to pardon some convicts for humanitarian reasons and because of the current circumstances, proves the kingdom’s keenness to consolidate advanced humanitarian practices, constantly provide opportunities for individuals to rectify their conduct and become tools for building, as well as for developing their society and nation.  

She pointed out that the issuance of the royal decree, in addition to the launch of institutions and initiatives to promote the culture of human rights, reflects the kingdom’s advanced level in the human rights fields and confirms that reform is a well-established method and practice in the state of law and institutions.  

The speaker asserted that the human rights system in Bahrain is progressing steadily, commensurate with the existing legal and legislative system, noting that HM the King’s vision on which the royal reform project is aims to strike a balance between consolidating human rights fields, on the one hand, and enforcing laws to protect the nation’s security and stability.

The speaker affirmed the Representatives Council’s support for HM the King’s visions and directives, in addition to enhancing cooperation with the Executive branch to achieve top national interests, in line with the civilisational and humanitarian fundamentals. She appreciated the effective implementation of the alternative penalty measures and the provision of rehabilitation programmes that suit the personal conditions of the convicts.
