Public Prosecution orders immediate action against quarantine violations

The Public Prosecution yesterday warned strict actions against anyone who fails to commit to the mandatory quarantine measures put in place by the authorities here to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The warning came in light of a person violating home self-isolation procedures and also coming in contact with others after illegally exiting the quarantine.

Following an investigation, the Ministry of Health placed the person into a ‘compulsory quarantine’ at one of its facilities. “Public Prosecution would deal firmly, within the framework of the law, with anyone who fails to comply with the mandatory procedures imposed by the competent authorities or seeks to impede their implementation in any way,” said Attorney General, Head of the Public Prosecutor’s Technical Bureau Chancellor, Harun Alzayani.

Alzayani stressed the need to remain committed to mandatory measures saying that the authority will take “immediate action against any violation of the law on public health and the measures undertaken to protect social health and safety.” He urged the ministry to take strict actions to prevent further violations which include “border procedures and other preventive measures being enforced countrywide.” “The stance is in line with the strenuous efforts undertaken by all government departments and state agencies in coordination with the Ministry of Health to enforce the rule of the law,” said chancellor Alzayani.

Public Prosecutor Dr Ali bin Fadhl Al-Bouainain had issued circular 4 of 2020 stipulating directives to take immediate action against any violation of the quarantining of infected or suspected cases.

The directives outlined rules and mechanisms for dealing with suspected and infected cases, in case they violate the isolation rules and procedures. They also stipulate coordination with the Ministry of Health to impose isolation procedures on the violator until recovery
