TDT | Manama

Public health officials are investigating the case of a new coronavirus spread here in the Kingdom through a man in his 70s. The 71-year-old Bahrain man tested positive for COVID-19 last Sunday, but officials do not know how many people he had come in contact with after contracting the infection.

Officials suspect him or receiving the virus from two Iran returnees with whom he had been in close contact this February. The man earlier tested negative to the virus and came out positive only during when he took it again a second time. Authorities suspected him of having the virus, when he was admitted to the Salmaniya Medical Complex on March 12 with acute pneumonia. But his results came out negative back them. Later on March 15, he was again taken for a COVID-19 test when his symptoms continued and this time emerged positive to the virus.

When interrogated, officials found out that he was in Al Mosawi Eye Centre on March 5 for a test and a funeral in Al Hoora on March 8. The next day, on March 9, he took part in a condolence meeting in North Jannusan Mattam. Health Ministry says the man until now had passed the virus to at least six other. Ministry officials are currently tracking his travel path to identify all those who had come in close contact with him.
