Join hands against the virus: Council speaker
TDT | Manama
The Speaker of the Parliament yesterday called on all Bahrainis to join hands to defeat the Coronavirus (COV- ID-19) infection by staying committed to all preventive measures. Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, said that the extraordinary current situation requires all Bahrainis to join hands and stay put to face any emergencies that may arise. The speaker further in- structed the Council’s Secre- tariat-General to implement precautionary and preventive measures, in coordination with the Shura Council, to ensure the health and safety of the members and staff of the National Assembly.
The move falls in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Com- mander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to combat Coronavirus (COVID-19).
During official working hours, pregnant employees and those with special needs were exempted from reporting to the Council of Representatives, as per the directives. The number of employees at the Council, during its of- ficial working hours, will be reduced to 50 per cent and the staff will work alternately in a way that would not affect the Parliament’s work.
The Speaker lauded the ded- ication of the National Task- force for Combating Corona- virus (COVID-19), praising its transparency, and keenness to reassure the citizens and residents.
