Inmates who were granted clemency by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, earlier this month, have been released, said General Director of Reformation and Rehabilitation. Those received amnesties and alternative penalties were released after them completing all health checkups including that for Coronavirus.
A total of 1486 inmates were released after complet- ing legal procedures, said the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation statement.
The General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilita- tion is a law enforcement body committed to implementing the law of the reformation and rehabilitation organisation and assures required health services for all inmates.
Earlier this month, His Maj- esty issued a Royal Decree par- doning 901 inmates in light of the spread of novel Coronavirus causing COVID-19 infections.
Announcing the decision, In- terior Ministry said it will grant alternative penalties for 585 inmates, who served half their jail terms.
“The vested judge in charge of implementing verdicts issued an edict replacing the remain- ing jail term for the inmates and enrolling them in rehabilitation and training programmes and, obligating them to other types of alternative penalties”, said the ministry.
Bahrain reportedly has around 20 prisons with Al Qurain Prison, Dry Dock De- tention Center, Jaw Prison and Isa Town Detention Center for women being the most important facilities.
