One year for Asian man for smuggling narcotics
TDT | Manama
An Asian man was punished by the First High Criminal Court yesterday for attempting to smuggle narcotics into the Kingdom. The man, who was arrested upon arrival at Bahrain International Airport in December last year, received a one-year prison sentence, fined BD1,000, and was ordered to be deported after completing his imprisonment.
According to court files, the man entered the Kingdom through the airport, where a customs officer found him suspicious. Further inspection of the man’s luggage led to the discovery of around 500 pills of Tramadol, an opioid pain medication used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain and is only prescribed as per doctors’ instructions.
The pills were found stashed within the folds of the man’s clothes and the matter was immediately referred to the Anti-Narcotics Department in the Interior Ministry.
There, the defendant was interrogated and later referred to the Public Prosecution, which charged him on December 13, 2019, with smuggling narcotics with the intention of selling it here in the Kingdom.
