'BCCI' Calls Upon Malls to Offer Faiclitations to Tenants

TDT | Manama

Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) called upon all commercial centres and malls in the Kingdom to provide facilitations to its tenants by exempting them from paying monthly rents for their shops.

The Chamber said this would reflect the centres’ national social responsibilities, which oblige all to join hands in combatting the global spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), adding that this would also support this sector and avoid the closure of the shops.

In the same context, BCCI expressed thanks and appreciation to the malls that have launched initiatives to exempt and reduce monthly rents of its shops, and their response to the Chamber’s previous call to alleviate the financial burdens off tenants.

The Chamber mentioned several cooperating malls, naming Seef Mall, Yateem Centre and Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah), while appreciating these establishments’ national and responsible role in offering facilitations to tenants and employers in the current extraordinary situations.

BCCI also commented that these initiatives demonstrate the centres’ concern to support the commercial sector and to stimulate the local market, while at the same time, the Chamber called upon other commercial centres and malls to adopt similar initiatives as per their capabilities, wishing the speedy recovery of the national economy and the continuity of economic progress in the country’s commercial and industrial sectors.

Moreover, BCCI Board of Directors expressed appreciation and pride in the Royal directives issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to unify national efforts to combat the global spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) on the national level, with the aim of protecting the citizens and residents of the Kingdom of Bahrain, parallel to the continuation of the nation’s programmes and work process to achieve sustainable development for the benefit of citizens.

Board Members also hailed the decisions of the respected government, spearheaded by His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and guided by the His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to launch the financial and economic package so that it benefits the private sector and provides the necessary liquidity for it to deal with the ongoing circumstances.
