Asian driver involved in fatal hit-and-run arrested

An Asian driver accused of being involved in a fatal hitand-run near Hamad Town last week has been arrested. The 32-year-old male is suspected of being responsible for the death of a Bahraini motorcyclist on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Highway last Friday.
Confirming the matter, the General Directorate of Traffic said in a tweet: “An Asian driver, 32, has been arrested for his involvement in a traffic accident between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman highway on April 3 that led to the death of the Bahraini motorcyclist, 24. Legal proceedings are being taken.” The deceased was identified as Musa Mohammed Shabaan from the village of Diraz.
Sources confirmed that the man is a newlywed. He was riding his motorcycle on the highway towards Zallaq on Friday when the incident took place. Eyewitnesses stated that a car cut into the deceased’s lane, where he couldn’t avoid a collision and eventually lost control of the bike, which flipped in the air several times. The man sustained serious injuries and was declared dead on the spot by paramedics, who reached the scene shortly after. The driver fled the scene.
The case has been referred to the Traffic Prosecution, which launched a probe into the details of the incident. No further information was available about the identity of the accused.
