Livestock imports from Sudan to resume

TDT | Manama

Bahrain will resume imports of livestock from Sudan, Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf announced yesterday. The minister indicated that Bahrain had suspended imports of livestock and meat from Sudan in September of last year, following the emergence of cases of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) there. He added that Bahrain will also begin importing red meat from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The move is with efforts to diversify the sources of livestock and meat, he said, noting that Bahrain can now import them from Sudan, Georgia, Romania, Somalia, Djibouti, South Africa and many other countries, in addition to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
